Devlog #2 — Wood comes from a walking stump

The Adventurer at the edge of the woods, next to a huge tree, with a Willow — a stump with a little leaf on its head — hopping toward the Adventurer

This week the world gained a new chain: from monster to axe, from axe to tree, from pickaxe to mine, and from mine to the guild castle. The usual rule still holds: the world only gives raw materials; whatever is made, is made by a player.

The Willow

Wood no longer comes out of the ground. The first piece comes from a monster: the Willow, a stump that walks through the woods of the plains, near the Crystal. It is passive — it only fights whoever hurts it — and it has a trick: once wounded below half health, it digs its roots in and heals while standing still. The soil churns at its feet and a green light rises with every heal.

The answer is the one anyone would try: fire tears it out of the ground and deals double damage. It is the first creature that teaches you each monster asks for an answer, not just more hitting.

The tree that falls

The Willow’s wood makes the first axe. With it in hand, trees can be cut down: four chops and the tree falls — it gets out of the way and stops blocking your sight — and it grows back in the same spot ten minutes later.

Pickaxe and ore veins

Ore veins are now solid, with shapes that change from place to place. Digging takes a pickaxe, which the Merchant makes from wood and stone and any class can use. It has its own equipment slot — it does not take your weapon hand — and only shows up in your hand while you dig. The better the pickaxe, the faster the ore comes out.

Mines and the castle

The 72 mines on the map cannot be dug by hand: resources only come out with a castle on top. A finished castle already comes with the mine works, and its treasury fills up on its own with the ore from that site.

At the treasury desk, the guild leader and officers invest the vault in three tracks: the castle, the mine and the gates. And the gate is now real: the leader opens and closes it. Closed, it blocks everyone, the guild itself included — and during a siege it can be broken down. Each gate level cuts damage to the doors by 10%, up to 30%.

Everything you build is solid

The house, the wall and the workbenches a player builds now stop bodies and block sight, just like trees and the castle. Before, you could walk right through someone else’s house.
